Celebrating the Teachers Who Changed Our Lives

This Teacher Appreciation Week, Above & Beyond Teaching is inviting our community to do something simple but meaningful: tell the story of a teacher who changed your life.

We have launched the #ATeacherChangedMyLife campaign, a peer-driven social media challenge running May 4 through 8. The idea is straightforward. Share a short post or video about a teacher who made a difference, tag a few people to keep the chain going, and use the hashtag so we can find and celebrate your story. The earlier in the week you post, the more momentum the campaign builds, so we encourage you to share sooner rather than later.

We are running this campaign in partnership with Teacher Stories, a podcast dedicated to celebrating the impact teachers have on students lives.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Start with the opening line "A teacher changed my life." Then share one specific story: name the teacher, describe a single moment that stood out, and say what changed for you because of it. Keep it brief. The most powerful stories are often the simplest ones.

When you post, use the hashtags #ATeacherChangedMyLife and #TeacherAppreciationWeek, and tag Above & Beyond Teaching on LinkedIn or Facebook. Then name two or three people in your post and invite them to share their own story. If you have a photo from your school days or something that connects you to that time, add it. It makes the post more personal and more likely to be shared.

We also ask that you drop the following links in the comments of your post so others can learn more and take action:

Nominate a teacher: https://www.abovebeyond.org/nominate-a-teacher

Support the work: https://give.abovebeyond.org/415364-a-teacher-changed-my-life

If you know an exceptional public school teacher who deserves recognition, we invite you to nominate them for the Carlston Outstanding Teachers of America Award. And if you would like to invest in our work supporting and sustaining great teachers across California, a gift of any size makes a difference.
